Teacher training programmes

Teaching takes many different forms. Here you can study to become a teacher who works with entire classes in primary or upper-secondary schools, or who offers individual lessons in singing or solo instruments, or who teaches creative subjects, such as music or art and design, to children in nursery and junior schools.

The teacher training programme is the largest individual programme offered at University of Gothenburg. All student teachers study the same courses in general education for three semesters, the general education field programme (AUO in Swedish). This enables them to meet student teachers from other disciplines so that together they can acquire basic knowledge about the conditions that apply to schools and how they operate along with teaching techniques and methods.

The various subject studies and specializations are offered by many different departments.

The Academy of Music and Drama has the main responsibility for four specialized areas

- the teacher training programme in music

- the teacher training programme in creative activity for early ages

- the teacher training programme in creating cultural meaning through music, rhythmics and drama

- the teacher training programme in theatre

We are also involved in many other courses in the teacher training programme.
